The Different Oil Types

There are four significant types of oil in the automotive world, and every vehicle out there will fit into one of these categories. You have conventional, full-synthetic, synthetic blend and high-mileage. Depending on where you take your vehicle, some shops might not have all these oil types available, but we have them all here at Certified Auto Repair in Henrico VA. No matter what kind of oil your vehicle might need, we can provide you with the best oil change service in town. Read on to understand more about the different types of motor oil the vehicles we drive today take.

Conventional Oil

Conventional oil is the most common and standardized type of oil. The oil is extracted, refined, then bottled, and shipped to stores around the world. This is the most common type of oil since it is the most cost-effective oil choice. A conventional oil change will last the user around 3 to 4 thousand miles when it comes to performance and longevity. Just around three months.

Full-Synthetic Oil

Full-synthetic oil is oil produced entirely in a factory or lab and is what you would call “premium” oil. This oil is generally found in European vehicles, performance vehicles, and more recent model vehicles. This oil change is more costly than a conventional oil change due to its improved protective properties for your vehicle’s engine. These oil changes will last the user anywhere from 6 to 10 thousand miles but will run you anywhere from $25 to $45 more dollars than the conventional.

Synthetic Blend Oil

If you are looking for somewhat of a middle ground, we have an option for you. Synthetic blend oil is commonly known as semi-synthetic oil. This oil is, well, a blend of conventional oil and fully synthetic. This allows for better-performing oil that is not quite as costly as full-synthetic oil. This type of oil has become more popular among drivers and enables the driver to go around 5 thousand miles between each oil change or require an oil change every five months.

High-Mileage Oil

Last but not least, we have the high-mileage oil. This oil has been engineered for vehicles specifically with a mileage of 75,000 or more. High-mileage oil is meant to help the seals and gaskets of the engine last longer and help prevent the malfunction of the engine. High-mileage oil is right for you if you drive an older vehicle and want to keep it lasting the longest.
